Introducing Jo Phillips, a partner of the Caxton Career Collective supporting our events throughout 2024/25. With a background in recruitment and staffing, Jo has transitioned to a national-level role, specialising in learning and development. She brings extensive experience, having delivered over 23,000 hours of training and designed curricula to support women in their career ascent. Jo is recognised for her inclusive approach and currently supports Women in Leadership programs, notably in HerSpark, empowering women to excel in their careers. Passionate about diversity and inclusion, Jo has achieved remarkable results, with her clients gaining an average salary increase of 39%. Based in the UK, Jo is a dedicated advocate for women's empowerment.

Lorena Bugden

Lorena's journey embodies resilience and reinvention. A former professional footballer, she represented her youth national team, traveled the world, and earned a U.S. scholarship to play and study. However, a career-ending knee injury forced her to pivot, leading her to a new path in recruitment, where she spent over three years connecting with people and creating opportunities.

Driven by her passion for interaction and competitive spirit, Lorena transitioned to sales and is now a Business Development Representative at Orbital Witness, continuing to make an impact in her evolving career.

Liz Barclay

Liz Barclay is the Small Business Commissioner for the UK. She is a professional broadcaster and journalist specialising in small business, personal finance and consumer affairs and is author of several business books. She is also Chair of the Fair by Design Campaign (to tackle the poverty premium) and a non-executive Director at Trustmark.

Liz has a long-standing relationship with the credit unions and ABCUL and has been Chair of the CU Foundation and was founding Chair of the AIG (ABCUL Inclusivity Group).

Until she took up the role of SBC Liz was a Financial Inclusion commissioner, an Ambassador for Business Debtline, a member of the Fundraising Regulator and Equity Release Council Standards Boards and ran BackinBusiness.org.uk to give small businesses a voice with policy makers. She has run production businesses and worked freelance and works with Boards and small businesses on improving governance, trust and culture, inclusivity, employee engagement, and understanding customer behaviour. She is also a communication and presentation skills coach and chairs national and international conferences

Laura Philips

Laura’s can-do attitude is infectious. It is why clients have described her as the one who ‘makes the magic happen’, even in the face of really complex project challenges.

“There’s always a solution, we just need to work it out,” she explains.

As a Delivery Director, Laura looks after a range of projects, making sure everyone is happy – from senior customer stakeholders to Softwire’s delivery teams.

Her career has seen her work in senior tech and management roles in retail, ecommerce, health and leisure, meaning she brings a valuable blend of cross-sector experience spanning project delivery, commercials, people-management and technology.

Laura is driven by a desire to make a difference through her work, Ultimately, Laura is committed to driving change for women in her Industry, with a deep desire wants to increase representation at all levels, and to help women ascend, she is the driving force behind implementing a new programme for Softwire's female talent and has a wealth of experience working in male dominated environments
