Ceasefire on tenterhooks
1 Minute Market Rundown
- Ceasefire partly broken by Israeli strikes on Lebanon
- Oil gains 2.9% overnight and the risk rally gives ground following news
- JD Vance supposed to be heading to Pakistan for talks later this week
USD -
You can't get too hopeful for too long in this market as the ceasefire that was so welcomed yesterday has been broken within a matter of hours. The Pakistani PM Sharif has stated that the original terms of the agreement have been violated and that the US and Iran's leadership are still trying to organise issues, especially relating to Lebanon.

Whilst Oil prices have bounced slightly higher, USD's poor performance, as shown above, suggests there may be more optimism that this deal lasts than it may seem on the face of things. The US VP is supposed to arrive on Saturday for talks formal and direct talks with the ability to make binding decisions, an ability who's ejection from previous envoys has greatly vexed the Iranians.
